Alexios & Elysia #19

“What do you mean, ‘just as you thought?'” I jumped back into my seat from the force of the smash and Tommy’s words.

He completely ignored my question. “Stay here. Lock the door. I’m going outside.” He said in a firm voice, placing his hand inside his jacket pocket to check for something. He closed the door behind him and although I tried to see what was going on, I couldn’t because the windows were foggy. I knew Alexios was out there. It had to be him.

Tommy tricked me. I wouldn’t go to his place so he tried to get Alexios to come to us. He knew Alexios was following us from the ballet.

I heard a banging against the car. They were fighting now. I felt anxious and my mouth became dry. One of them was going to die tonight. My heart beat so fast. I couldn’t breathe in the car.

I didn’t want neither Alexios nor Tommy to die. I unlocked the door.

I was going to stop them.

“He fell for it, alright,” Tommy said grinning like a spoiled brat who always gets what he want. It irked me.

“I guess so,” I muttered.

“Did you make lover-boy upset? Too fuckin’ bad. I don’t even understand how a smart, beautiful girl like you, could fall for a blood-sucker?”

“Listen, Tommy, just fuck off!” I shouted. “Take me home.”

“No, the night is much too young,” he gave me a quick glance, while fumbling for music, “plus, he’s following us.”

“But I made a renez-vous for tomorrow.”

“It doesn’t really matter.” His eyes were on the rear-view mirror, giving up on his music.

“Yes, it does. It does to me.”

“You have to come to my place. That’ll make him angry!” he smirked.

“That wasn’t the plan.” I said pissed off.

“Plans change.” His expression was blank. He was cold as ice, fuming. “I want to kiss him tonight!”

I felt uneasy, uncomfortable in this plan. I didn’t want Alexios dead…my thoughts kept on changing on me.

“I don’t care if you still have feelings for that dead fuck.”

“Stop reading my mind!” I screamed at him.

“Okay, okay, calm down.”

“No, you calm down.” I repeated.

He blasted the music like an angry teenager. It was some stupid dance song on the radio. After a minute, he shut off the music and turned to me.

“Ellie, do you want him to kill more woman?”

“No, of course not.”

“You know killing is what he does best. He is a killer.”

“So are you.” I said.

“I’m a vampire killer. That’s completely different. I don’t kill innocent people, especially women.”

“This is so fucked up.”

He slowed down the car and parked at the side of the road. He shifted his body toward me. The street was vacant, no cars in front or behind. I figured he probably lost Alexios or something.

“Listen, Ellie, I don’t want you to get hurt,” Tommy looked into my eyes and then he rubbed his head s if he had a headache. I studied him closely. His blue eyes flickered on me. “You are so difficult. You are truly stubborn, and I think that is what I like most about you.” He leaned in toward me. I didn’t move, waiting to hear what he was going to say next. “When all this is over, I want to take you on a real date.”

“Are you seriously coming onto me?”

“Yes,” he whispered and placed his hand in my hair. “Yes, I am. I’ve never met anybody like you.” I felt electricity storm through me. I liked the way his hand was caressing my hair. “You make me so angry one minute and the next minute I want to kiss you. I want to kiss you like you’ve never been kissed before.”

I looked at his lips beckoning me and his voice tingling through my body. I felt the exact same way, but I didn’t want to admit it.

“I want to kiss you right now,” he said and looked at my lips, gently caressing the side of my cheek and slowly moving his fingertips over my mouth. I was melting at his touch, entrapped by his magnetic blue eyes. I didn’t pull back. I waited. He took his other hand and stroked my other cheek, pulling me closer to him. “So can I?” he mumbled.

“Stop talking,” I managed to say and with one slow movement his mouth was on mine and his hands were in my hair, holding my head tightly. I felt the urgency in his kiss and reciprocated my need. He pulled me closer to him, but the gear shift got in the way and I instinctively jumped over it and landed on top of him in the driver’s seat. His hands grabbed my ass and pulled up my dress. I felt my insides exploding and then I heard a crash from the back of the car. I bolted upright. Tommy looked behind me and said, “Alexios is here, just as I thought he would be.”

“Dima, I need your blue dress,” I said frantically on the phone.

“Okay, but, hold on, do you have a date?”

“Yes.”

“With who? Don’t tell me that gorgeous guy at the bar?”

“Yes, him, but it’s not really a date.” Or was it?

“Sure, it’s not a date. That’s why you want to borrow my dress? When was the last time you wore a fuckin’ dress?”

I couldn’t even remember.

“Who cares? Can you bring it by, or what?”

“What time is your date?”

“Seven p.m.”

“Okay, I’ll be there at five.” Two hours?

“Oh yeah, please bring your curling iron…and Dima…”

“Yes?”

“You’re a life saver!”

“I know!”

As soon as she came over she started with my complete makeover. “Okay, Ellie, let’s get to work!” She was so excited, holding onto the dress and barely through my door. “I also brought my blue pumps,” she added with a wicked smile. “Guaranteed to make his heart stop,” she smiled, “or his willie hard.”

“Willie?” I rolled my eyes, bursting into laughter. I grabbed the shoes out of her hand, “How the hell will I walk in these?”

“Trust me, they are super comfortable. Now get out of your clothes and put on a robe. We are starting with your makeup.” I did as was told and sat down in my bedroom in front of my vanity.

“Okay, now don’t move.” She did her magic, telling me to close my eyes, open my eyes, look up, look down, smile, and pucker up my lips. She curled my hair and sprayed it. “Follow me.” I got up. “Now take off the robe and I’ll dress you gently to not ruin your hair.” I put on the dress and the shoes and then she shoved me in front of the mirror whistling. “All done.”

I couldn’t believe it was me.

“You look hot…he’s gonna freak.” I suddenly felt nervous.

“These shoes are so comfortable,” I said. Dima looked at me exasperated.

“That’s all you have to say?”

“Wow. Thank you, Dima.”

“That’s better.” She patted herself on the shoulder. “I’m outta here, before the bell rings.” She glanced at her watch. “It’s almost seven.”

She grabbed her belongings and hugged me bye. “Have fun!”

I was too nervous to speak. Then the doorbell rang. Shit.

Dima opened the door and with a quick hello and back glance at me, she whisked herself off, but not until I saw her wink at me and open her mouth wide at his appearance. Tommy stood there staring at me. He looked magnificent.

“Hi,” I said.  He looked me up and down and cleared his throat.

“Hi, Ellie. You look stunning.”

“Thank you.” We stepped out of the house and I locked the door. He held out his arm for me and I wrapped my arm through his. He was solid and strong against me and I felt a slight tug in me.

As soon as we sat in the car and he started the engine, the music blared through the speakers and surprised me. He didn’t lower the volume. He continued driving as we listened to this sweet song.

“Who is this?” I asked curiously. “I’ve never heard them before.”

“Alabama Shakes. Do you like it?”

“I love her voice.”

Tommy lowered the volume. “Ellie,” he ran one hand through his hair and the other he held the wheel firmly, “we have to set some ground rules for tonight.”

“Sure.”

“We have to show Alexios that we are into each other, so don’t be surprised or shocked when I kiss you, also, you have to reciprocate.” He gave me a sideways glance that I ignored.

“Fine.” I kept my cool although I was edgy. “I know the drill.”

“When he shows up, I want you to make a rendez-vous with him for another night, and that’s when I’ll kill him. Tell him you still love him and all that other shit he’ll want to hear and make it believable.”

He didn’t give me a chance to speak. He raised the volume again and we listened to the rest of the song. He sounded irritated.

When he parked the car and opened the door for me, he gave me his hand, “By the way, that dress you’re wearing is unforgettable.” I gave him my hand and I stood a few inches in front of him. He slightly touched my hair and I felt flustered. “Just go with it, he could be watching,” he whispered.

I let him touch my hair and I reached up and touched his. He wasn’t expecting that and I felt a slight shock at my touch and then an ease as I pulled it away.

Tommy put his hand in front so I could go ahead first, “After you…” he said in a low husky voice.  “This is going to be an interesting evening.”

Alexios & Elysia #12

The next day I woke up with a migraine that wouldn’t quit. I thought over everthing that Tommy had said to me and realized in a twisted way that what he said made sense. I knew that I had to do something to find Alexios to clear everything up, but I had no way in getting in touch with him. Plus, Tommy was waiting and watching me to see if Alexios would come over. How could I get Alexios alone?

I decided to do my own spying starting tonight. I would go out again and see if Tommy or Alexios would follow me. If Alexios knew that Tommy was watching my every move he wouldn’t show himself here, but perhaps in a public place, somewhere we used to go…that’s it! I’ll go to Cafe Laurier by myself and then go to the bathroom and wait. He was bound to show up. It sounded ridiculous, but I was out of fresh ideas.

I wore a dress…why not? Tommy may be obnoxious, but he was kind of right…I should dress up once in a while. I curled my frizzy hair and put on this blue-green dress I looked at myself in the mirror and changed my mind instantly. It’s just not me.

I was too overdressed. I put on my jeans and t-shirt and my high-heeled boots. I applied some makeup, earrings, jewellery and changed purses. Okay, now I was ready.

I saw Tommy as soon as I left my house.

“Hey, gorgeous,” he shouted from across the street. He was parked in his car, listening to his ipod and giving me a thumbs up. Has he forgotten I told him to fuck off last night?

I ignored him and turned to go the opposite direction. I had to catch the bus. I heard him start the car. I looked around to see if Alexios was anywhere, but he wouldn’t be in plain sight. My plan really sucked.

I heard another car right by my side and a blue sedan passengar side door swung open.

“Get in,” a voice scolded, “quick!” the driver had an English accent.

I peered in and saw Alexios ducked in the back seat, gesturing for me to jump in. I glanced at Tommy and saw him screech out of his parking spot with a glare in his eyes. Our eyes met briefly. I hesitated for one split second and then jumped in the back seat. Tommy was speeding up close behind as the driver screeched off.

“Alexios! Where have you been?” I shouted as I landed in the back seat.

“Sh!” he placed his hands on his lips.

“I think he’s behind us! Shit!” the driver said.

“Elysia, Freddy. Freddy is my friend from way back. Why the fuck is Athanasios  following you?” Alexios looked at me.

“Nice to meet you, love.” Freddy said and I half-smiled through the rear-view mirror.

“Is he still there?” I asked.

“You bet your pretty little face,” Freddy replied.

“What do we do?” I asked.

“I lose him like a bad habit,” Freddy smirked. “Hold on, love, it’s going to be a bumpy ride. Alexios, stay low so vampire killer doesn’t see you.”

“Yeah, yeah,” Alexios replied and looked straight at me. “Pretend you’re talking to Freddy.”

“You actually think Tommy doesn’t know you’re in the car?” I looked at him incredulously. “If it’s one thing he’s not, it’s stupid.”

“Tommy? You mean Athanasios? You met him? How?” His green eyes turned darker and dangerous.

“He just showed up at my window one day and then again at a bar when I was out with Dima.”

“Your window? A bar? What the fuck?”

“He told me a lot of stuff,” I said staring at Alexios and twirling the bracelet that Tommy had given me for my protection.

Alexios looked at my bracelet and glared at me, “Where did you get that bracelet?” he lifted his arm to touch it and it stung him back as if it burned him. “He fuckin’ gave it to you!” I saw fear in his eyes. “Elysia, don’t believe a thing he tells you. Athanasios wants to kill me. He’s full of lies. He’ll say anything to trap me!”

The car was going so fast I felt like puking. Also I was trying to have this conversation with Alexios without really looking at him and I kept on turning to see if Tommy was close behind. This whole scene had me in a hysterical state.

“I came to make sure you’re alright.” Alexios said softly brushing my arm with his hand. “I love you, Elysia,” he whispered so Freddy could’t hear.

“I lost the fucker!” Freddy hollered. He stopped the vehicle to the side and signalled for me to get out.

“Quickly, Elysia, remember I told you that Athanasios wants to kill me? His family has been killing vampires for centuries. He’s highly dangerous. He’ll do anything to kill me. The truth is, I was ordered to keep you close to me because your family has a strong connection to vampires.”

“I know, Tommy told me everything.”

“Could you stop calling him that?”

“Whatever. It doesn’t really matter.”

“It’s like you’re buddies or something.”

“Well, we’re not! ”

“You seem different. What is it?”

“First of all, why did your hand burn when you touched the bracelet? And why were you ‘ordered’ to follow me? You sent me all those letters because you were ‘ordered’ to? You don’t give a shit about me. You never loved me.”

“What the fuck?” his eyes narrowed and he appeared evil.

‘I don’t believe you.”

“Alexios, we don’t have time for drama, we have strict orders,” Freddy said. Suddenly, out of nowhere we felt a hit from behind.

“Fuck! It’s that fucker.” Freddy hollered. “You have to let her out! It’s too dangerous,” Freddy said.

“Let me out!” I screamed.

“Elysia, I have to explain,” he continued. I opened the door and I heard him say something about another time and that he still loved me, but I wasn’t listening. I felt Tommy’s hands pulling me from the sidewalk. I hadn’t even realized I was on the concrete floor. My head was spinning. He was telling me to get into his car and I was not responding.

“Babyface, if you don’t start moving that sexy little bum into my car, I’m going to lose the lying son of a bitch, blood-sucking fiend!”

I jumped up and into his car quickly and he placed the car roughly in drive. It was a small car for such a tall man. I saw his long legs under the steering wheel and I felt a slight movement deep in my belly.

“You like what you see?” his blue eyes laughed as he caught me staring at him.

“Keep your eyes on the road,” I said curtly looking straight ahead, “Where are they anyway?”

“I lost them, fuck, but at least I found you.” He glanced at me sideways and ran his hand through his dark hair. “I was worried,” he said as if he was admitting a sin.

“You shouldn’t worry about me. I am safe with Alexios. He loves me.”

“Vampires are incapable of love. They obsess, they lust, they conquer, but they can’t love as humans love. Their emotions are imblanced. Ellie, you’ve ben a fool. It’s a shame Alexios is a player. He is a vampire who has left a trail of broken hearts and limbs across the world. You are just another victim…if he kills you, he kills the connection to your grandmother, which is a powerful connection that has been known to deter vampires. Believe me, it was not love. I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but I could tell by the look in your eyes, I am..and we’ve fuckin’ lost him!”

It was quiet for once. He leaned back in his driver’s seat and punched some buttons from behind his steering wheel and then I heard Pat Benatar’s Treat Me Right loud and clear.

I glanced at his expression and he had this stupid grin on his face. “I think this song is apropos.” Apropos? His eyes stared into mine a few seconds too long. Fuck, he was right. This song was perfect.

“Ellie, when are you going to get it through your lovely face that vampire boy is not your ideal boyfriend?”

“Okay, tell me more,” I sighed.

“Not while I’m driving. I know a little place.” He blasted the song so we couldn’t talk so I listened to the lyrics and did the only thing apropos, I sang along.

Alexios & Elysia #9

“Oh,” I mustered, completely distracted by this man’s light blue eyes and dark sweeping hair falling in his face. He looked down at me as if I was a dwarf. I felt so tiny as I buttoned up my jeans and pulled my top over my hips, wondering if I had a little bit of eye makeup still left. “Of course, I know he’s a vampire!”

“Then I gather, you like to kiss vampires?” His eyes twinkling down at me and examining my lips closely. “You know they are savages and can kill you in an instant.”

“Alexios wouldn’t kill me.” I said, taking two steps back. He was way too close for comfort.

“And how can you be so sure? I have seen him kill. I have been chasing him for years and every time I get close he disappears again.” He looked at me up and down. “What’s your name?”

“Elysia.” I said and felt a shudder go through me. Was he a vampire too? I felt this fear come over me.

“No, I’m not a vampire.”

“How did you do that?”

“Can I?” he asked and sat down without my permission. “Do what?” he placed his leg over his thigh and his arms across my couch. “Have a seat, Elysia.”

I sat in the armchair facing him. He cleared his throat, “So what do you know about me?”

I know you’re a vampire hunter and you want to kill Alexios. “Not much,” I said.

“Don’t lie. You know I’m a vampire hunter and I want to kill Alexios,” he smiled.

I quickly got up, “I don’t know how you did that but I want you to leave.” I tried not to think of anything. He wasn’t moving and I suddenly felt scared.

“I won’t hurt you.” He place his hands on his legs and stared at me. Was he compelling me or something? “I told you I’m not a vampire and I can’t compel you. I can read minds though, as you can see. I’m telepathic, for want of a better word. In plain terminology. I like to think of myself as a mind-reader.” And he looked at my lips again. “Elysia, I suggest you don’t let Alexios into your house again. He’s bad news and I’ll be watching your house closely.” He got up. “You can block your thoughts well. That’s pretty good.”

“I think you should leave.” I started to tremble.

“Don’t be scared. I’m here to protect you from him. You may not know it now but Alexios is dangerous. You seem like a nice person.” He came close to me and pulled something out of his jean pocket. I caught a glance of his body and felt a sexual energy toward him. What the hell was going on? Why did I feel this way?

“This is for you, it belonged to your great-grandmother Elizabeth.” It was a    bracelet with Ancient Greek writing on it. He bent slightly to place it on my wrist and his touch electrified me. I raised my wrist a few inches. He looked into my eyes again and laughed. How did he know my great-grandmother? How was I involved in this?

“You are really pretty, Elysia…I will be back tomorrow to explain how you are involved. Right now I have to follow Alexios’ trail.”

I couldn’t speak and I tried hard not to think.

He stepped close to the window, looked back at me and said, “Try not to think of me while I’m gone.”

The second he left I turned on my laptop and with a shaking hand typed in the name: Athanasios. The only thing that I could find was its meaning, which  freaked the fuck out of me.

Athanasios, The Immortal. And try as I might, I couldn’t get him off of my mind.
