Lines on the Carpet

New poem on the fly

Sometimes you want to cry in the middle of the day

for no apparent reason

yet if you sat down

for a minute or two

to think about it

you would know

how lies

turn into tears

at any time of day

and you can think

about the times

that never happened

or the ones that almost did

or the dates we sat across

from each otber

pretending it was normal

to lie

and now I cry

what else can I do

to make the day

seem productive.
