Far from that

December 8, 2016

Was I what you imagined?Better? Worse?

Even better

not even close.

I feel the wind

like most feel the cold.

It can open up portals

to unwanted demons

and let loose the ones

we protect. Best to

let go of the burned memories

the chalk outlines

of ex-lovers

recent lovers

future lovers

unwanted lovers.

Sometimes, one hour

is worth one decade

or one lifetime

and even Keats

thought fifteen minutes

was enough. I will try

not to love you

but it is too late

my heart has slowly

caught up to my head.

The cliche of it all

seen and obscure.

The mundane of it all

lost on highway tracks

line me up on the yellow lines

my figure is slim enough

to fit under your tires

your body

your mind

your heart

but let us leave

grocery lists on the table

bracelets in a dish

clothes in a ditch

souls in the universe.

Leave science and formulas

in text books

let vino tell the veritas.

I have a knot in the back

of my neck

that requires your

touch.

Yet life is bitter

and cold

and the mind

can convince us

that silence is deadly

when in fact

it is essential

to listen to yourself.

I wrestle with myself

as a daily sport

and words

eat me up whole

turn my red hair

to gold.

Just don’t call me a queen

I’m far from that.

    As deep as ocean

    Feelings blowing through
