A Piece of Sky

September 16, 2016

You touch their hand to the sun

feel the earth

while she shakes like a hollow

until the morning.

You take a vision and make it hers

paint the sky

with unspoken words

as he waits for her to wake up

the clouds become pillows

the moon a bed.

Bring down gods

just to give her Eden

she is holy and Hell

a fire onto man

and a mystery to Heaven.

Make the clouds shout her name

the moon cry with envy

and the sun darken all that defy her

for she awakens seasons

with one look

and the sky remains

silent

at her beauty.

I heard her name whispered

from the bottom of a bottle.

I’ve heard the devil once wrote her a letter

but she burned it with Hell’s fire.

Since then I no longer look at the sky

it reminds me of her stone eyes

her wicked legs inside rainbows.

I truly never gave her the sky

I promised,

for she was wrapped up in it

consumed by its weather

and there I stood

staring at my empty glass

trying to forget her.

I had to go to hell to taste heaven

our perfect sin.

Her name is written

in the stone tablets of my heart

etched there where my love for her

remains

locked in time

a piece of sky in my pocket

to remember her by.
