Our Season

Round, vine-ripe gourds

will be ready for hollowing out

soon,

the rains will come

and pools of seduction

will couplet

between collarbones

our hips will weave

and lovers, like us, will sigh,

but those same bones

and outtake of breaths

will hollow out meaning.

Autumn will stir . . . with

nothing,

nothing more than loss

immense,

vine-ripe loss.

The loss of all the words

we shared in deep tall woods

all the sex

we never had

the beating of our hearts

on opposite sides of the world,

and Fall

will bring more of

empty undressed trees

remove our seeds

as we look forward

to a void ripened season

in all its November darkness.

Grace Black bathes in brevity. She writes poetry and flash fiction and prefers them both like her coffee—dark. Her first collection of poetry “Three Lines: All That’s Left” (2015, available on Amazon, reflects the above sentiment. She has been published in various journals online and in print. Matt Adamik (photographer) and Grace Black (poet) are collaborating on a project to expose the dangers of believing the misplaced dialogue of the toxic people often granted power in our lives. Documenting their pain as art, they hope to reach others that may be or have been struggling, others that have felt despair, empty, broken, lost— They want to reach as many people as they can to share their message: You are not alone!
Into the Black-And-White of It. . .
We are not broken.

We are whole.

We are love.

We are one.
